What is CoTK Homeschool?

Church of the King Homeschool Association is a Christian homeschooling community committed to providing a rich and Christ-centered educational environment for our families. We are distinctly Reformed in our theology, holding to the historic confessions of the faith, and we aim to cultivate a love for God, His Word, and His world in all that we do. Our co-op is not simply a gathering place for homeschoolers—it is a covenantal community where families partner together to disciple their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Our educational philosophy is rooted in the methods of Charlotte Mason, emphasizing living books, habit training, nature study, narration, and a feast of ideas. We believe education is not merely the transfer of information, but the formation of the whole person—mind, heart, and character. To that end, we prioritize meaningful engagement with beautiful, true, and good materials.

Church of the King Homeschool Association operates with a unique approach: all participating families agree to purchase and teach through the same curriculum each semester. This unified structure allows us to foster a shared learning experience across families and age groups, encouraging depth, consistency, and community in our co-op life. Each semester, we work together through subjects such as Bible, history, geography, science, writing (using Institute for Excellence in Writing – IEW), philosophy, and theology. These areas form the heart of our weekly gatherings. Other essential subjects like math and reading are taught individually by parents at home.

We meet weekly at Church of the King in McAllen, where our time together is marked by prayer, worship, discussion, hands-on learning, and fellowship. Parent participation is essential to the function and vision of our co-op. Each parent serves as either a lead teacher or an assistant teacher, ensuring that the load of instruction is shared and that every family is actively contributing to the educational process.

Church of the King Homeschool Association is free of charge for church members. However, we gratefully accept donations to help cover the cost of supplies, copies, classroom materials, and other group expenses. Our desire is to make this co-op accessible to all families who share our values and vision, regardless of financial ability.

At Church of the King Homeschool Co-op, we seek to glorify God through excellent, joyful, and faithful education—together. For more information please contact us at cotkhamcallen@gmail.com

Statement of Faith

Inerrancy of the Bible: We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God, without error in all its teachings (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).

The Trinity: We believe in one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14).

Deity of Christ: We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God, coequal with the Father and the Holy Spirit (John 1:1,18; Colossians 2:9).

Humanity of Christ: We believe that Jesus Christ became fully human, yet without sin, to reveal God and to redeem humanity (John 1:14; Hebrews 2:17).

The Holy Spirit: We believe that the Holy Spirit to be a person and that He indwells all believers, empowering them for godly living and service (1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Romans 8:9-11).

Original Sin: We believe that all humans are born with a sinful nature due to Adam’s fall, necessitating salvation through Jesus Christ (Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12).

Salvation: We believe that individuals are justified by faith alone in Jesus Christ, not by works, but by God’s grace (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 5:1).

The Kingdom of God: We believe that the kingdom of God was inaugurated by Jesus Christ at His first coming and is now present in the world (Mark 1:15; Luke 17:20-21; Acts 2:29-31).

Second Coming: We believe in the personal, bodily return of Jesus Christ in glory to judge the living and the dead (Acts 1:11; Hebrews 9:28).

General Resurrection: We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; the saved to eternal life and the lost to eternal damnation (John 5:28-29; 1 Corinthians 15:20-24).

Final Judgment: We believe that God will judge all people at the end of human history, rewarding the righteous and condemning the wicked (Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 20:11-15).

This statement of faith reflects our commitment to the essential doctrines of the Christian faith as revealed in Scripture.
