Who We Are
Our Mission
Our mission is to see America restored as a Christian nation. The name of our church, Church of the King, reflects both our dedication to the One we serve and our acknowledgment of His supreme authority over all creation. As members of Church of the King, McAllen, we are committed to establishing a truly biblical church—one firmly grounded in the Word of God (sola scriptura).
Church of the King History

Church of the King was established in 2003 through the faithful leadership of Elders Ron D. Smith, Charles White, Juan Guajardo, Mitch Ladyman, and Brian Burns, who were ordained by ministers from Church of the King in Corpus Christi, Texas. The congregation first met at Covenant Christian Academy in McAllen, Texas, united by a clear and purposeful vision: to plant a distinctly Reformed, postmillennial, and theonomic church in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley. From the beginning, the church has been committed to proclaiming the crown rights of King Jesus over every area of life, seeking to build a community grounded in biblical truth and dedicated to the advancement of Christ’s kingdom.

In 2005, Church of the King broke ground on a new church building, marking a significant milestone in establishing a permanent home for the congregation. By 2006, the church moved into its completed facility on Ware Road in north McAllen. This new location provided a long-awaited, stable gathering place for worship, fellowship, and ministry, further anchoring the church’s presence and mission in the Rio Grande Valley.

In 2008, Church of the King broke ground on an expansion of the property, adding a new building that initially served as the fellowship hall. This space was later transformed in 2021 into the church’s new sanctuary, while the original sanctuary was repurposed as an education building. The new education building is now used for Sunday school classes and also serves as a meeting place for smaller churches in need of a gathering space. These changes reflect the church’s continued growth, commitment to discipleship, and dedication to supporting the broader body of Christ in the Rio Grande Valley.

In 2024, Church of the King expanded its education building to create a formal library dedicated to the memory of our founding Pastor, Ron Smith. This space not only honors his legacy but also serves as a resource for the church and Covenant Homeschool Co-op. In 2025, Pastor Ron passed away to be with the Lord, but his unwavering dedication to the kingdom of God continues to impact the church and the community he helped build. His legacy of faithfulness and service remains a guiding example for all who follow.
Pastor Emeritus
Pastor Ron Smith served Church of the King with unwavering faithfulness from its founding in 2003 until his passing in 2025. As a shepherd, teacher, and leader, he labored tirelessly to proclaim the whole counsel of God, build a covenantal community, and advance the kingdom of Christ in the Rio Grande Valley. His deep love for the Scriptures, his bold commitment to Reformed theology, and his pastoral care shaped the life and mission of the church for over two decades. Though he is now with the Lord, his impact continues through the lives he touched and the foundation he helped lay.
