The Lord's Day at COTK

The Lord’s Day is central to the life of our church. From the earliest days of the church, Christians have gathered on the first day of the week to remember the resurrection of Jesus Christ, to worship God in reverence and joy, and to be renewed in faith, hope, and love. At Church of the King, we seek to honor the Lord’s Day not as a burden but as a blessing—a day set apart for rest, worship, fellowship, and the ministry of the Word and sacrament. Below is what you can expect on a typical Sunday in the life of our church.

Sunday School — 9:30 AM

Our Lord’s Day begins with Sunday School at 9:30 AM. This is a time of teaching and study designed to deepen our knowledge of God and strengthen our walk with Him. We rotate through various topics, including studies through books of the Bible, classic confessions and catechisms of the Reformed faith, and trusted works of Christian theology. Sunday School is taught in a lecture format with time set aside for questions and interaction. This time of teaching is open to all and is aimed at equipping the saints for maturity and faithfulness in every area of life.

Lord’s Day Worship — 10:30 AM

Our main worship service begins at 10:30 AM. As a Reformed church, we follow the regulative principle of worship, meaning that our service is shaped by what God commands in Scripture. Each element—singing, prayer, Scripture reading, preaching, and the sacraments—is grounded in the Word of God and directed toward His glory.

We sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs that are rich in biblical truth. The preaching is expository and sequential, meaning we work verse by verse through entire books of the Bible, seeking to declare the whole counsel of God. We believe that God speaks to His people today through His Word, and so we give careful attention to its public reading and faithful exposition.

Each week we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, inviting all baptized believers who are trusting in Christ to commune with us. This weekly communion reminds us of our union with Christ and with one another, and it nourishes our faith as we partake together in obedience to our Savior’s command.

Monthly Church Potluck — Last Sunday of the Month

On the last Sunday of each month, we hold an all-church potluck immediately following the service. One of our elders or deacons provides the main dish, and everyone is encouraged to bring a side, drink, or dessert to share. These meals are a joyful time of fellowship, laughter, and hospitality. Whether you are a long-time member or visiting for the first time, you are warmly invited to stay and enjoy a meal with us. There is always plenty of food and room at the table.
